22 May, 2018

San Sebastian, 18 May 2018.- The thirteenth National Awards for Innovation in Digital and Advanced Manufacturing Technologies, organised by AFM, which will award innovations in machine tools, parts, accessories and tools and also innovations in additive manufacturing and 4.0 concepts applied to the industry, will be assessing the innovations presented by 18 companies. The participating companies are also exhibitors at the 30th BIEMH, the machine tool fair to be held in Bilbao from 28 May to 1 June, one of the requirements for the awards.

Competing for the award in 2018 in the additive manufacturing category are the companies Addilan, Addimen, Mizar and Optimus 3D; in the Industry 4.0 category, Fagor Arrasate, Ibarmia in a joint project with Shuton and Zayer, Industrias Puigjaner-Denn, Savvy and Trimek; and in the machine tools, parts, accessories and tools category, Dimeco, Fresmak, Goizper, Korta, Nicolás Correa, Soraluce, Myl and Zayer.

The innovations will be assessed by a panel composed of 11 people, representing Beaz, Bic Gipuzkoa, CDTI, Eide, Ergogroup, Ihobe, Mondragon Unibertsitatea, Osalan, Spri, Tecnun-University of Navarra and University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU).

There are three categories of awards this year: award for innovation in machine tools, parts, accessories and tools, award for innovation in additive or 3D manufacturing and award for innovation in the application of 4.0 concepts in advanced manufacturing systems, with the latter two having been added in 2016.

The award ceremony will take place in BEC on 31 May, during the BIEMH, the Biennial Machine Tool Fair, and the awards will be presented by the Chairman of AFM, César Garbalena, and the Head of the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa, Imanol Pradales, together with Xabier Basáñez, the Managing Director of BEC.

Another award will also be presented at the Innovation Awards ceremony, the AFM-SIF Award (Manufacturing Engineering Society), a result of the close collaboration between the two organisations. This is a special mention by AFM for the best final year project relating to the machine tool industry.
Since its inception in 1992, through DZ (now BEAZ), the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa has assisted AFM and BEC (Bilbao Exhibition Centre) in organising the awards.
