LANTEK INAUGURATES A TECHNOLOGY CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE TO DEVELOP SOFTWARE

09 October, 2017

Lantek, a pioneer multinational in the digital transformation of the metal industrial sector has inaugurated Lantek BilbaoTech, a new office in the centre of the Basque capital, whose vocation is to become a technology centre of excellence in the development and engineering of software for the digital transformation of sheet metal sector companies.

With this new opening, the Basque firm, whose head offices are located in the Alava Technology Park, fosters its strategic investment in the Basque country, committing to attracting specialised talent in the areas of Engineering, Science and Technology, from the different training centres located in the area of Bilbao, a worldwide reference city in the transformation of its industrial and technological fabric.

Alexander Arriola, director general of the Business Development Agency of the Basque Country (SPRI) attended the opening event of Lantek Bilbao Tech, highlighting that the Basque Country has always been known as a driver of development and a promoter of transformation, something that is possible thanks to its business fabric.

“We are living in a new era that demands new capabilities, where technology, innovation and specialisation are key aspects to reinforce competitiveness within and beyond our borders. The commitment of companies such as Lantek, which today adds another office to its trajectory, is a clear example of this, and I am delighted to take part in this moment”, declares Alexander Arriola, director general of the Basque Agency of Business Development (SPRI).

Lantek Bilbao Tech starts out in the Gran Via of Bilbao with the idea of recruiting up to 25 new engineers over the next 3 years. “Constant innovation has been one of our maxims since the company was created in 1986. It is a feature that has enabled us to become world leaders in our sector and we want to continue on this same path to tackle new future challenges brought about by the digital transformation of factories and everything that surrounds the world of advanced manufacturing and Industry 4.0”, explains Alberto Martinez, CEO of Lantek.

Lantek aims, by means of this new centre, to multiply its capacity to develop applications and software solutions for customers, providing them with a faster service and greater global support. The main activity of this office will focus on the engineering and development of software for customer projects that will be coordinated from Global Project Office, complementing the already existing team in Miñano, from where Lantek will still supply software to the entire world with the best quality standards on the market. In this vein, the new technology centre represents a key step for Lantek in its growth plan underpinned by its strong strategic commitment to the development of specific products for Industry 4.0 in order to support the digital transformation of its customers.

In this sense, the Basque country aims to tap into the extremely high skills of the engineering schools of the Basque capital. “We believe in people and in attracting talent to continue providing innovative software solutions that help us carry out the digital transition with all our customers”.

Thus, Lantek continues with its growth that has led it to have a global presence, in 14 countries, to provide all its customers with local support but with a global approach. Currently, the company has more than 19,000 customers in more than a hundred countries.
