GEINSA INSTALLS PAINTING FACILITY FOR KOOLAIR

07 February, 2022

GEINSA, which specialises in the manufacture and assembly of surface treatment installations, recently supplied a painting facility to Koolair for its main plant in Madrid.

The Koolair group specialises in the manufacture of air diffusion and distribution products ranging from grilles and diffusers to sophisticated high-tech products, developed at its modern R&D lab.

The facility supplied consists of a six-stage treatment tunnel with corresponding osmosis water and oil separator equipment, a dry-off oven, a quick colour change booth, a polymerisation oven and conveyor circuit, as well as a manual powder booth. The equipment is controlled from a general switchgear cabinet with PLC and touch screen and, in line with Industry 4.0, it has a remote system that allows reliable real-time communication.

The painting facility consists of a 6-stage nanotechnology treatment tunnel, a dry-off oven, a quick colour change booth, a manual powder booth, a polymerisation oven and a continuous conveyor circuit.

A natural ventilation air curtain was designed at the interface between the degreasing and rinsing stages to prevent degreasing products from contaminating the first rinse. After each active bath, a humidification stage was designed, followed by rinsing with pure osmosis water to ensure components have the highest quality finish. Lastly, the parts are sprayed with a product that produces a film that improves the quality of the finish, with a considerable increase in their endurance in a salt fog chamber test.

The tunnel is equipped with a bath management and control system with readings for pH, temperature and conductivity, and an automatic dosage system for chemical products that maintains optimum product concentrations in the baths.

For waste management, a tank has been provided to receive any possible waste released from the existing well because of out-of-range parameters. This also entails a waste neutralisation and quality verification system.

When the treatment process is complete, the part enters the dry-off oven and will then be ready for the application of powder paints. After painting, the parts are placed into the two-way polymerisation oven. The exits of the ovens are equipped with air curtains and heat recovery hoods, to prevent heat escaping from them.

The installation includes a remote help system that allows reliable real-time communication.
