24 March, 2026Fagor Arrasate and Funditec have established Primus Robotics, a new company in which both entities hold a 50% stake, focused on the design, development and manufacture of industrial humanoid robots. The initiative combines expertise in artificial intelligence applied to autonomous systems with experience in engineering, automation and advanced manufacturing, with the aim of introducing robotic solutions into European production environments with high standards of precision, safety and availability.
The new company will carry out its industrial operations in Arrasate-Mondragón, where a 2,500 m² facility will be set up for an initial production phase estimated at around 200 units per year, with plans to scale up progressively to exceed 3,000 units per year. The first functional prototype, named Primus P1, is scheduled for late 2027.
This humanoid robot is designed for handling, maintenance and support tasks in production processes, incorporating its own operating system based on edge artificial intelligence (edge AI), which allows for its integration into environments designed for human interaction. This approach facilitates safe collaboration between operators, machinery and automated systems.
The project forms part of the growing adoption of humanoid robotics in European industry, particularly in sectors such as the automotive industry, where pilot initiatives are already being developed with a view to integrating them into complex production processes.
