CONNECTED INDUSTRY IS THE STAR TOPIC AT THE 21 CONGRESS ON ADVANCED MANUFACTURING AND MACHINE-TOOL

02 October, 2017

The 21 Congress on Advanced Manufacturing and Machine-Tool will be held from 25 to 27 October in the main building of the Guipuzcoa’s Science and Technology Park in San Sebastian. The country’s most veteran technological congress is laden with novelties.  In the avant-garde scientific-technical perspective, which has characterised the congress since the very beginning in 1976, the organisation, on this occasion, has wanted to add an in-depth look at topics such as the digitalisation of industry, innovation in processes or the management of talent, together with companies and speakers of acknowledged prestige.

The congress aims to generate debate on current topics of great interest in the field of advanced and connected industry. Through conferences, presentations and round tables, the main tendencies in the design of machines and their components, manufacturing and machining processes, automation and robots, additive manufacturing, the challenges of big data and cybersecurity, and talent management will be studied in depth.

A considerable number of institutional representatives will take part in the opening and closing sessions of the congress, reflecting their dedication to an initiative that commits to industrial innovation.

Xabier Ortueta, Director General of AFM Cluster: “We have worked for this congress, the only one of its kind in Spain, to be a must-attend event for anyone who believes that industrial innovation is the key for the future of our economy.”

Continuing with the tradition of previous years, three awards will be presented during the congress closing session, which will take place on 27 October: one to the best work presented by a company, another to the best communication by the scientific-technical community, and the third to the best final project from a technical school.

Connected Industry

The first day of the congress will start up with presentations from two internationally acknowledged companies in the field of digital industry, SIEMENS and MICROSOFT. The latest advances in Industry 4.0 in the machine tool sector will be announced and this session will be completed with practical cases of end users from different user sectors, such as ANTOLÍN GROUP, CIDAUT, B/S/S GROUP, FESTO and ABB among others.

Additive Manufacturing

A special session will be held on the second day of the congress on additive manufacturing technology with the intervention of both digital printing and 3D equipment manufacturers and companies that use this technology. HP INC., BÖLHER, STRATASYS  and FIT AG are just a few of the companies that will present their viewpoints in this field.

Big Data and Cybersecurity

A highly topical issue such as the security of our data and their increasingly complicated management, will be presented by Pablo Carlier from GOOGLE CLOUD, who will focus his presentation on Big Data in industry, and Deepak Daswani, an acknowledged expert in cybersecurity and ethical hacker, who will try to respond to the challenges represented by entering a connected industry.

Talent Management

Alex Rovira, acknowledged entrepreneur, writer, economist, international speaker and Spanish consultant, will close the congress with a keynote speech on Talent management. Prior to this presentation, a round table chaired by Guillermo Tena, Human Resources Director of CUATRECASAS, will discuss the new profiles that industry is going to demand in the future, and what industry must do to attract and retain young talent. Different but complementary viewpoints will be represented at the table: David Martínez from IMPRONTA CONSULTORES, Norberto López de Lacalle  from the UPV-EHU, Garikoitz Agote from the REGIONAL COUNCIL OF GUIPUZCOA, Yolanda Zubillaga from MTORRES and Taig Mac Carthy from GÏK LIVE!.

Companies such as MAQUINSER, FAGOR AUTOMATION, IK4, TECNALIA, ENTELGY, SNA EUROPE or  HP INC. will have stands in the commercial exhibition area, which will be completed with posters from companies and from universities that will show their best final projects. Among the universities present: TECNUN, the Machine-tool Class of UPV/EHU, MONDRAGON UNIBERTSITATEA and the Dual Engineering University School of the IMH.

The important presence of students from the main engineering centres is framed within the strategy to capture young technical talent promoted by the association.
