TDG COMPLETES THE DESIGN OF AN AUTOMATIC PALLET EXCHANGER FOR USE IN LATHES

12 December, 2014

The Basque company, Talleres de Guernica (TDG), specialised in the design and manufacture of equipment for the machine-tool sector and capital goods, has completed its product diversification project and has obtained the first contract for the delivery of an automatic pallet exchanger, which will be added to its traditional offer of support blocks and tables (clamps).

The new creation, a 180 degree turning device, has been purchased by the Italian lathe manufacturer, Mario Carnaghi, who will receive it during the first weeks of 2015. This reference will have capacity for parts of up to 120 mm in diameter and will speed up all the operations of the end customer, as it permits the preparation and centring of the piece in the external station, which will considerably increase productivity.

People from TDG underline that the launch of this product opens up a new commercialisation channel that they believe will increase in the future with the extension of the catalogue to include more complex exchanges for milling machines and machining centres. In this plan, they will take advantage of the technical expertise acquired with the design of their turnkey offer for 180-degree turning devices.

The table division, on its part, highlights several turnkey orders developed for a machine-tool manufacturer in Guipuzcoa, which has entailed the design of special clamps to overcome the technical problems derived from the equipment maintenance service to be provided. The execution of this work will enable them to complete the 2014 fiscal year in line with the previous year, thanks to the demand level of markets such as Italy and Germany. Furthermore, their visit to the Chicago IMTS has reinforced the mid-term expectations with their customers in the American market.

The maintenance of the activity has also led to the consolidation of their 40 jobs and the execution of several modernisation projects at the plant. On the one hand, the lighting system has been replaced with LED technology, with the subsequent reduction in the electricity bill; and, on the other hand, the inner walls of the workshop have been panelled to improve the image of a factory built in 1916.
