Dimeco to increase in size with a new 2,500 m2 plant in Oiartzun

Last modified 30-03-2012

Dimeco, a Gipuzkoa-based company, specialising in the design and manufacture of flexible lines for processing sheet metal in coils, will in 2012 be building a new factory in the Lanbarren Industrial Estate (Oiartzun).

The new industrial base will provide a big boost to the firm’s activities, as it will provide the space necessary to meet the demand for lines up to 60 metres long; it will also lead to an improvement in the general working conditions and extend the engineering and R&D&i area with the construction of a unique building to house all the services, which will also reinforce the brand image. Indeed, the future Lanbarren plant will occupy a 4,600 m2 plot, of which 2,500 m2 will be built on, compared to the 900 m2 the company currently has in the Ventas Industrial Estate in Irún. Dimeco’s management has appointed Tinko to take charge of the engineering and site management work for the plant, as well as to deal with tenders from subcontractors to ensure that the facilities are ready to be handed over by the end of the year.

The Oiartzun factory has been designed to make it easier to assemble and test sheet metal coil processing lines at real speed, so it will be completely open, have assembly pits and a number of 30-tonne cranes. This means that the Dimeco designs can be 60 metres in length, compared to the limit of 35 metres in length imposed by the current plant.

The improvement in industrial infrastructure will be consolidated by more work on innovation. This will see Dimeco putting the focus on specialising in the design of highly versatile, fast lines by extending the “servoflexipress” systems to processing sheet metal in coil format, for punching work as well as roll-forming and bending on a line. This research work has the backing of the Basque Government.

The configuration of our new offer will help to consolidate expansion abroad, where three quarters of our company’s sales go. Recent projects include a manufacturing line for tubular supports and profiles for solar collectors for the Gestamp Group in the USA; a cutting line for aluminium discs for the leading Mexican kitchenware manufacturer; and a profile manufacturing line for the Bizkaia-based group Aluminios Eibar.

Finally, Dimeco plans to increase sales in 2012 thanks to an order book that is up on last year and the fact that enquiries about new projects have also remained at a good level. Indeed, the company has included in its plans a 20% increase in the workforce, up to 36 people, over the next three years.
