2011 was especially notable in the development of the IK4-Ideko Technology Centre in Elgoibar. The centre specialises in manufacturing technologies and industrial production and its mission is to help achieve sustainable development in an innovative and competitive business environment.
Continuing down the path of growth, which is even more laudable taking into account the current crisis, the Technology Centre has posted in the year of its 25th anniversary a 5% increase in total turnover with revenue from projects totalling €7.7m. Of this amount, €5.1m came from contracted R&D projects with companies and €2.5m from research projects backed by a number of different bodies.
The current situation makes it more necessary than ever to translate the advances in R&D into results so that the new technologies sustain the competitiveness of our firms in a way that stands out. Aware of this situation and more committed than ever to the development of our socio-business environment, IK4-Ideko has worked in the year of our 25th anniversary on different lines of action constantly focused on results.
In the field of research, the 107 workers making up the IK4-Ideko’s staff have contributed to its development at the international level by means of 13 active European projects of which in 5 cases the Technology Centre is participating as project leader.
The work carried out in the research field has been complemented by a lot of transfer work to the socio-business fabric through on-demand industrial projects. In 2011 IK4-Ideko signed R&D collaboration agreements worth close to €2m with 4 benchmark companies in the machine tool and manufacturing technologies sector with a clear focus on sector-based specialisation in two of the cases.
Finally it is worth highlighting the work carried out by IK4-Ideko to take advantage of research results and help companies through new diversification processes. This has enabled companies in the manufacturing sector to enter the health sector as a result of new technological developments backed by their experience and skills in mechatronics.
