ONA ELECTROEROSIÓN AND ZAYER, WINNERS OF THE MACHINE TOOL INNOVATION AWARD

Ona Electroerosión has won the award in the machine tool category, and Zayer in the components, tools and accessories category. The Jury’s special mentions have gone to Gurutzpe and Fagor Automation. The AFM-SIF award was also presented to the best final year project.

San Sebastian, 4 June 2014 – During the course of the Machine Tool Biennial, the National Machine Tool Design and Innovation and Manufacturing Technologies Award was presented this morning at Bilbao Exhibition Centre (BEC). The event was organised by AFM, Advanced Manufacturing Technologies with the support from BEC and Beaz (Innovation Agency of Vizcaya).

The President of AFM, Advanced Manufacturing Technologies, Antxon Lopez Usoz and the Minister of Innovation of the Regional Council of the Vizcaya, Imanol Pradales, were responsible for presenting the awards in this eleventh edition. The jury, comprised of EIDE, IHOBE, SPRI, TECNUN, the University of the Basque Country, Mondragon Unibertsitatea, Ergogroup and Osalan, has considered innovation, design, ergonomics and safety criteria to determine the awards.

This year, and for the first time, another award was presented within the Innovation Awards, the AFM-SIF (Manufacturing Engineering Society) Award, which is the result of the close collaboration between AFM and SIF. This is AFM’s special mention to the best final year project related to the machine tool sector, and it has been granted to a Machine Tool student from the University of the Basque Country, Roberto Polvorosa Teijeiro, for his project “Procedure for the recovery of thread taps for the aeronautics industry by means of re-grinding”.

In the Machine tool modality, the award went to the company Ona Electroerosión with its “Wire Electro-erosion Machine, model AV-25”. Gurutzpe has received a special mention from the Jury for its “Horizontal lathe with motorised lathing disc, milling column, boring module with rapid set-up system FAMOC”.

In the Components, Tools and Accessories category, the winner was the company, Zayer, with its “Milling headpiece 30”. The Jury’s special mention went to Fagor Automation for its “CNC 8060”.
