GEINSA CARRIES OUT RAILWAY CARRIAGE TREATMENT AND PAINTING INSTALLATIONS FOR EUSKOTREN

30 October, 2014

The booth with air recirculation has a by-pass to discharge air to the outside. The car is partially inserted into the booth via practically hermetic closure.

Eurotren has recently carried out two installations at its new plants of Lebario (Abadiño, Basque Country) and Arasa (Irun, Guipuzcoa), in order to improve the repair speed and finish quality of its railway carriages.

The Lebario installation is comprised of three areas:

- Preparation booth: 21 x 6 x 6 m

- Paint spray and drying booth: 21 x 6 x 6 m

- Paint spray and drying booth for bogies: 7 x 5 x 3.5 m

The surface preparation booth with air recirculation has a by-pass to discharge air to the outside during certain operations. The installation is completed with some technical rooms for the control, cleaning and preparation of materials, which are manufactured with the same characteristics as the actual booths in terms of robustness and insulation.

With respect to the special railway carriage treatment and painting installations that Geinsa has carried out for Euskotren, in the Basque Country, the Araso installation, in Irun (Guipuzcoa) consists of an identical paint-spray and drying booth to that installed in Lebario, of 21 x 6 x 6 m.

These are, respectively, the third and fourthcarriage repair installations that Euskotren has purchased from Geinsa, as in 1996 they installed a bogie cleaning and preparation booth for its facilities in Lutxana (Erandio, Basque Country) and in 2008, the second tram carriage repair installation for the Vitoria workshops and depots.

The main characteristic - both of the preparation booth and of the paint spray and drying booth -, is that the vehicle can be inserted partially into the booth by means of a practically hermetic closure so that adjustment is optimal. In this way, the operations that are going to be carried out can be made independent thus protecting workers from adjacent areas.

Both at Araso and at Lebario, the preparation booth, and spray paint and drying booth are equipped with pneumatic elevation platforms. Each booth has two platforms, one on each side, which move lengthwise, whilst the basket moves vertically. At the work point, the basket can be placed practically next to the vehicle inserted.

Heating is carried out by natural gas burners. These are direct combustion burners, with no exchangers. During the painting phase, the operator selects the temperature at which it must be applied depending on his well-being and the characteristics of the application. During the drying phase, the maximum temperature is 60ºC.

In Lebario, the generator equipment and extractors are installed on the roof of the car paint spray booths, in order to optimise spaces. However, the final retention filters are installed at operator level, thus facilitating regular maintenance tasks.
